Want to do something differant with that space above your kitchen cabinets?  This simple project transforms that space from an unsightly storage shelf into a decorative accent.

MATERIALS:
Floral Foam (1 full block for every 18" of Cabinet top)
Greenery Bushes (Min. one 12 stem bush for each foam block)
Floral Picks (optional)
Floral Wire Snips (Available at Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, or other craft store)
Floral Tape (optional)
Optional Decor Accessories (Grapes, Apples, Wine Bottles, or whatever matches your kitchen)

I prefer the soft foam for dried florals, but any floral foam will work fine.  Work with one block at a time and one bush at a time.  Cut the stems to your greenery bush with your floral snips and separate the stems.  If using flo9ral picks, wrap each stem with the pick wire and then cover with floral tape (remember to keep it taunt).

Starting in the center of the foam, insert the greenery stems.  Don't worry about the back half, it will never show.  You want to stagger the stems so that the leaves look natural and not like little soldiers all lined up.  Follow the illustration below.

Once you have inserted all the stems, place the foam on top of your cabinets and make the necessary adjustments.  Check to make sure that the greenery is not in the way of your cabinet doors.  The object is to fill the vertical space while keeping the arrangement natural looking.  If you have open ends on your cabinets, consider letting a few vines trail down.

After you complete all of the foam blacks, step back and admire your work.  Does it need something more?  You can add artificial fruit or berries, decorative glassware, or canisters that fit your kitchen theme.

This project can also be a way to add a seasonal flair to your home.  Try pine sprays for Christmas, yellow and orange leaves for autumn, and the old favorites of ivy or maple for spring and summer.

Worried about dust collecting on your greenery?  No need to fret.  Once or twice a year, spray your creation with a cleaner specially designed for silks.  It's available at most craft stores in the floral department.

Another Tip:  Spray your greenery with a clear room spray in your choice of scents.  There are many uncolored varieties available at your local Wal-Mart or Dollor Tree.
